St Gervais is a hansome 19th century spa town set in a narrow river gorge on the far side of Mont d’Arbois, with access to the slopes via a 20 person gondola from just outside the town. It’s an urban but pleasant place, with interestin food shops and cosy bars, thermal baths and an olympic skating rink. Prices are noticeably cheaper than in Megeve. On the opposite side of St Gervais is a railway, which in 1904 was intended to go to the top of Mont Blanc but actually takes you to the slopes of Les Houches.
